Large headphone storage has always been an issue – Brainwavz have taken it upon themselves to help solve that issue with the Hengja headphone hanger. Find out what we think of this tidy metal construction in our Brainwavz Hengja review.
Large, over the ear headphones can take up a lot of space – particularly if, like me, you use them at a desk. The also have a habit of getting knocked around a lot – as well as taking up valuable desk/shelf space. Headphone hangers have been around for a while now – here we’re looking at the latest offering from Brainwavz.
The Hengja is a sturdy piece of kit. Assembled from a few pieces of metal, held together by hex head bolts (this will be more important a little further on). The metal pieces are very nicely finished – they have very sharp looking, clean edges, with the paint finish (presumably powder coated) being faultlessly smooth.
Overall, the hanger feels very strong and sturdy – possibly even over engineered, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing for an object that will possibly take the occasional knock or two.
Brainwavz have designed the Hengja to clamp onto the edge of a surface – a desk, shelf or the side of a shelf unit. The clamping mechanism is incredibly simple – the silver clamp piece rotates & screws towards the surface that you are attaching it to. It is a little tricky to get a tight fit by hand – but there is a slot for a screwdriver on the underside if you can’t get it tight enough by hand.
You can change the orientation of the hanger by undoing the single, middle hex bolt – twisting the clamp section 90 degrees, then re-tightening the bolt. This gives you the option of mounting the Hengja to vertical surfaces (like the sides of shelf units) as well as horizontal surfaces.
The Brainwavz Hengja will clamp onto surfaces up to approx 28mm thick and the overall size is 105mm long, 45mm wide (hanger) & 40mm tall (clamp jaws).
Brainwavz Hengja Headphone Hanger Review Conclusion
In use the Hengja headphone hanger works very well – it is very sturdy & will happily hold any over the ear headphones. If being used on a desk, you can quite easily catch your leg on it when walking past – so some care needs to be taken when you select where you install it.
The looks are clean, sharp and will appeal to most tech fans. While its hard to be excited about a headphone hanger, we do think the Brainwavz Hengja is a great product that performs well and compliments many audio setups brilliantly.
Pros:
- Great finish
- Sturdy build
- Flexible mounting
Cons:
- Easy to knock on a desk
